OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (March 1, 2021) — Deer scoring and the Trophy Deer Contest will be part of the inaugural Kansas Open Season Sportsman’s Expo, March 12-14 at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Entries will be received all three days of the Expo on-site.
Attendees who bring a trophy deer to be scored in the Trophy Deer Contest will receive their deer’s official score, be able to show off their deer, compete for an award and get a weekend pass to the Expo. Jerry Lunde, who is an Official Measurer for Boone & Crockett, Pope & Young, Wisconsin Buck and Bear, Minnesota official Measurers, North American Shed Hunters, and Longhunters, will head up the Deer Scoring team. Dave Boland, known in the outdoor world as, “The Legend,” in terms of scoring sheds, will be part of the team of measurer’s.
“Having deer scoring at the Kansas Expo will add a great element to the show,” said Chris O’Hara, Vertical Outdoor Director, Bonnier Events. “This will be the first time in over a year that official deer scoring has been conducted at a show in Kansas, so we are expecting plenty of attendees to take part. We always enjoy seeing what folks bring, especially going to a new market for us, like the Kansas City area.”
The following classes will be scored: Archery Typical, Archery Non Typical, Gun Typical, Gun Non Typical, Youth 16 and under and Women’s. Awards will be given to first-place, second-place and third-place in each category as well as an overall highest score and a Judges’ Choice Champion.
